About
Adrian Lorenzo Alfonso is a principal architect and co-founder of 8x8 Design Studio, a boutique Metro Manila practice he established in 2012 with fellow principal Pearl Robles-Alfonso. A 2007 architecture graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, he leads the studio's technical design and construction documentation.
8x8 Design Studio works in a modern, tropical, and minimalist idiom. Its steel PK House in Calatagan, Batangas, published on ArchDaily in 2023, reinterprets the Filipino bahay kubo as a stilted hilltop weekend home capturing views of Balayan Bay. An earlier work, the Calatagan Gym Villa, frames a mango grove between two bold horizontal slab planes.
The studio was among nine practices chosen for the Philippine Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, and its work has been featured in design publications including ArchDaily and Kanto, marking Alfonso as part of a younger generation of critically recognized Filipino architects.
