Jason Buensalido

About

Jason Buensalido is a Filipino architect and the founder and principal of Buensalido+Architects, which he established in 2006 and relaunched as Barchan Architecture in 2024, taking the name of the crescent-shaped desert dune. He studied at the University of Santo Tomas College of Architecture and the Architectural Association Global School, and was a gold medal awardee at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business in 2014.

He placed first in the Philippine architecture licensure examination in 2005, a credential frequently cited in coverage of his practice. His firm is known for contemporizing Filipino architecture, drawing on local motifs and narratives to shape bold, expressive forms.

His signature works include The House, a Manila townhouse whose triangular motifs are abstracted from banderitas fiesta flaglets, and The Polygon House, whose stacked volumes are deconstructed into faceted polygonal forms. The Screen House, completed in 2022, uses screens, louvers and cross ventilation for passive cooling. His APT Studios, the home of the long-running program Eat Bulaga, was designed like a cultural theater with a facade evoking giant stage curtains.
