Juan Carlo Calma

Juan Carlo Calma, born in 1981, is a Filipino architect and visual artist and the founder of Carlo Calma Consultancy, which he incubated in 2009 and now operates from Bonifacio Global City. He belongs to the Calma design dynasty as the nephew of the pioneering designer Lor Calma and first cousin of architect Ed Calma.

He studied at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco before completing his architecture training at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London in 2009. His work deliberately blurs the boundary between art and architecture, pursuing what he calls an architecture of exuberance rooted in a contemporary Filipino identity, local craftsmanship and materiality.

His signature residences include the sculptural Infinity House, conceived as a living kinetic sculpture, and the Galvanized House in Manila, which celebrates Filipino identity through galvanized yero sheeting and rainwater-fed water features. In 2025 his consultancy designed the Philippine Pavilion, Woven, for Expo 2025 in Osaka. He was also named to Tatler Asia's Most Influential list in 2021.
