About
Nikki Boncan-Buensalido is co-principal of Barchan Architecture, the Makati City practice founded in 2006 as Buensalido Architects and rebranded as Barchan in 2024. A University of Santo Tomas architecture graduate, she leads the firm's administration, finance, and culture while contributing to design alongside her partner, architect Jason Buensalido.
The firm is known for a contemporary Filipino architecture that reinterprets local heritage through modern materials, an approach it calls Random Responses. Signature works include the CIIT Interweave Building in Quezon City, whose weaving-inspired facade earned a Highly Commended citation and Best Use of Colour at the World Architecture Festival 2021, and The Terraces at Dao, a Metro Manila commercial project that won a grand prize at the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Awards.
Under Boncan-Buensalido and Buensalido, the practice has become one of the more recognized contemporary design firms in the country, named Best Firm in Architecture Design at the 2025 Asia Architecture Design Awards and the subject of the 2024 monograph Shifting Sands.
