What they do

Cali Architects is a Baguio City studio founded in 2020 by principal architect Amon Cali, a United Architects of the Philippines member who started the practice solo during the pandemic and grew it to a small team. Its self-described signature is "Tropical Brutalism," pairing raw concrete and bold geometry with wabi-sabi minimalism and island living, and treating a house "not just as a structure, but as a sculpture for living," with priorities around energy efficiency, water harvesting and minimal footprints.

The firm's best-documented project is Casa Borbon, a two-storey brutalist concrete vacation home completed in 2024 on the forested coastal slopes of Batangas. Featured by Designboom and documented on ArchDaily, the home uses a polystyrene-panel construction method rather than typical hollow blocks, which the team credits for a roughly eight-month build with better thermal insulation, and it deliberately preserves the site's mature trees rather than reshaping them.

The portfolio is residential and small-scale, including the Peu Brut series of brutalist tiny and off-grid houses and the Hydro Home in Antipolo. Cali Architects presents its work as design-build, handling both design and construction.
